What usually causes it
- Clog in the toilet. If only this toilet is affected, it's usually a local clog.
- Main line blockage. If other drains back up too, the blockage is likely farther down the line.
- Fill problem. If water keeps running into the bowl, the tank parts may be stuck.

Common questions
Should I keep plunging?
If only one toilet is affected and the bowl isn't about to spill, a few tries are fine. If other drains are affected, stop and call.
Is overflow water dangerous?
It can carry sewage, so keep people and pets away, wear gloves and clean the area well.
