Plumbing FAQ
The things people actually hesitate over before calling a plumber — estimates, fees, timing, licensing, permits, and warranty. Straight answers, no hedging.
- Do you charge for estimates?
- For most residential repairs we'll give you a price over the phone or by text if you can send a photo. For anything that needs eyes on it — a leak behind a wall, a repipe, a sewer issue — we come out and quote it in person. Call or text (805) 788-8444 and we'll tell you straight which one your job is.
- What's your call-out fee?
- We'll tell you before we drive out. You'll never get surprised by a fee you didn't agree to on the phone.
- How fast can you actually get here?
- Our shop is on 4th Street in Grover Beach. Anywhere in the Five Cities — Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Oceano — is usually under 15 minutes. San Luis Obispo is about 20. Paso Robles is about 45. For a true emergency, call (805) 788-8444 and we'll tell you honestly how soon we can be there.
- Do you handle emergencies at night and on weekends?
- Yes. Emergency service is available 24/7 by phone at (805) 788-8444. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Are you actually licensed? How do I check?
- CA Lic. #1102487, C-36 Plumbing. You can verify it yourself at cslb.ca.gov — search the license number. We're also bonded and insured, and DIR-registered as #2000010117 for public works. Ask any plumber for their license number before they start work. If they hesitate, that's your answer.
- What if you break something in my house?
- We're insured. If we damage something, we fix it or we pay for it. That's what insured means, and it's the reason hiring an unlicensed handyman for plumbing is a bad trade — if they flood a wall, you're the one holding the bill.
- Do you pull permits?
- Yes, on the work that requires them — gas lines, repipes, water heater replacements. Permitted and inspected. A plumber who offers to skip the permit to save you money is offering to hand you a problem when you sell the house.
- Do you offer a warranty?
- One year on workmanship. Manufacturer warranties on equipment vary by brand and we'll tell you what yours is before you buy it.
- How much does a water heater replacement cost?
- It depends on tank versus tankless, the size, and what your current setup looks like — a straight swap and a conversion are very different jobs. Send us a photo of your current unit at (805) 788-8444 and we'll give you a real range same day.
- My drain is slow. Do I need hydro-jetting or just a snake?
- Usually a cable clears a single slow fixture. Hydro-jetting is for main lines with grease or root intrusion, and for recurring clogs that keep coming back. If a plumber leads with jetting before they've looked at it, ask why. We'll run a camera first if there's any question.
- Do you work on tankless water heaters?
- Yes — install, repair, and service. Navien and Rinnai primarily. Tankless installs need correct gas line sizing and venting, which is where a lot of bad installs go wrong.
- Do you do repipes?
- Yes, PEX and copper, full house or partial. Common in older Central Coast homes with galvanized pipe. Permitted and inspected.
- Can you do prevailing wage / public works jobs?
- Yes. We're registered with the California DIR, #2000010117. Most residential plumbers in the county are not, which is why a lot of GCs on public projects have a hard time finding a plumbing sub. We handle the certified payroll.
- Do you work with general contractors on new construction?
- Yes, that's a core part of what we do. Request a sub bid at /construction/bid or call (805) 788-8444.
- Do you do commercial work?
- Yes — tenant improvements, restaurants, medical and dental offices, multifamily. We're also ASSE 6010 certified for medical gas.
- Do you do backflow testing?
- Yes. Certified tester, ID PI0000550. Annual testing, repair, and certification.
- What areas do you serve?
- The Five Cities first — Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Oceano. Also San Luis Obispo, Nipomo, Avila Beach, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Atascadero, Templeton, Paso Robles, Santa Maria, and Orcutt.
- Can I text you instead of calling?
- Yes, and honestly it's often faster. (805) 788-8444. Send a photo of the problem and we can usually tell you what you're looking at.
