Who handles backflow in Santa Maria
Santa Maria runs its own program. It doesn't go through the San Luis Obispo County program. City of Santa Maria Utilities collects test results through its online Backflow Test Submission Portal, and testers have to be registered on the portal with a current certification and gauge calibration on file. We're registered, and we submit your results through the portal after the test.
What Santa Maria properties need a tested assembly
Commercial buildings, restaurants and markets along Broadway and Main, industrial and food-processing plants, ag and cold-storage facilities, irrigation meters, and fire services. The City's standard drawings cover assemblies from 3/4" domestic services up to 10" and larger fire services.
How we handle your test
We test each assembly with a calibrated differential gauge: both checks, and on an RP the relief valve. Most single devices take about 30 minutes. For a business, we test before you open or after you close, so the water's never off during your hours. We carry repair kits for the common Watts, Febco, Wilkins and Zurn assemblies, so most failures get repaired and retested in the same visit. You get a copy of the report, and we file the certified copy with the City of Santa Maria. A passing test that never reaches the district counts as no test.
Santa Maria notes
Santa Maria's industrial and food-processing sites often have large-diameter RPs and fire assemblies. We carry kits for the common makes and can repair most failures on site. For food plants and markets we schedule around production and delivery windows.

What Our Customers Say
I highly recommend Modern Perspective Plumbing! I called, and they were able to send someone to my house in a very short amount of time. Ed was friendly, personable, and easy to work with. He explained everything clearly, did great work, and the pricing was fair. It's so refreshing to find a company that provides excellent customer service and quality work. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again or recommend them to others.
Eddie was able to squeeze me into his schedule fast to help me with a bathroom remodel that I had already started demo on before I called him. When he showed up, he saw my old type M copper coming up from under the slab and advised me to replace that before it failed like half of my neighbors. He re-piped the house and the new bathroom within a couple days. Very clean and professional, highly recommend Eddie and Modern Perspective.
The team at Modern Perspective Plumbing are top of the line. Excellent quality work and even better human beings. Our old water heater was leaking and needed to be replaced. MPP visited same day to check out the situation. Eddie replaced it the very next morning after I finished water damage remediation. They've earned our future business and recommendation. Give 'em a call; they'll take care of you.
