5 Signs Your Home Needs a Repipe (And What to Expect)

A repipe is a real project — usually two to four days, drywall patches included — but for the right house it's the fix that ends a decade of small leaks, brown water, and weak showers. Most of the Central Coast homes we repipe were built between the 1950s and the early 1980s and still have galvanized steel supply lines or early polybutylene. Both have a hard ceiling on how long they last in our water.

The five signs we tell homeowners not to ignore: persistently low water pressure across the whole house, rusty or discolored hot water at the tap, more than one leak in the last twelve months, visible pinhole corrosion on exposed copper or galvanized pipe, and a sudden jump in your water bill with no change in usage. Any one of those can be addressed in isolation. Two or more in the same house usually means the pipes themselves are the problem, not the fittings.
