How often is backflow testing required?
California regulations and most local water purveyors (including San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County districts) require backflow prevention assemblies to be tested annually. Some high-hazard installations — hospitals, labs, and certain industrial accounts — may require semi-annual testing. We track your due date and send a reminder before your certification expires so you never lapse.
What should I expect during the on-site test?
Most tests take 20–45 minutes per device. Our certified tester will arrive with calibrated gauges, isolate the assembly, briefly shut off water downstream of the device, run the required pressure and check-valve tests, and restore service. For commercial sites and HOAs we coordinate with property managers in advance so tenants and residents are notified. If the device passes, you're done — if it fails, we'll walk you through repair or replacement options on the spot.
What documentation do homeowners and HOAs receive?
After every test you receive a signed copy of the official backflow test report listing the device make/model, serial number, test results, tester ID (PI0000550), and certification date. We submit the same report directly to your water purveyor and San Luis Obispo County Environmental Health on your behalf, and we keep a digital copy on file. HOAs and property managers get a consolidated report covering every device on the property, suitable for board records and compliance audits.
What happens if my device fails the test?
We can repair or replace most backflow devices on the spot. If parts need to be ordered, we'll secure the assembly and schedule a return visit to complete the work and re-test — then submit the passing report to the water district.
